An accomplished executive, Dominic O'Dierno is the CEO of Amare, LLC, in Portland, Oregon. Dominic O'Dierno also supports various nonprofit organizations such as Oregon Children's Theater (OCT) and the National Centers for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), the latter of which works to protect children from child abusers and predators.
Children can be approached virtually by child predators online. A child who is being manipulated will often begin to spend more time online, isolate themselves in their room or display other forms of secretive behavior when online with their phones, tablets, or laptops. Child predators are criminals who influence children psychologically in ways that make them vulnerable to abuse. If parents suspect their child has been approached by a predator, experts recommend reporting the situation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline. NCMEC's CyberTipline is the nation's reporting system for all types of cyber child exploitation. After receiving a report, NCMEC staff reviews the information and engages an appropriate law enforcement agency for investigation. Once the situation has been reported, law enforcement personnel will help locate the suspected criminal's address (where they are contacting the child from) and determine the individual's identity. The child should also receive counseling, which is usually provided by the state. Information derived from the CyberTipline report also is utilized in updating public messages regarding prevention and safety. NCMEC can be reached through the telephone line: 800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST) or on their website at https://report.cybertip.org/. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Dominic O’Dierno holds a cum laude bachelor of science in finance and marketing. In addition to leading the consulting firm Amare as chief executive officer, Dominic O’Dierno actively supports charitable organizations including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
When children are involved in the court system due to abuse or neglect, the experience can be highly stressful. CASA volunteers provide support and assistance for these children, advocating for their best interests and engaging with the child in regular visits. Working through nearly 1,000 local organizations in 49 states, CASA trains volunteers who provide support for more than 276,000 children each year. The organization’s citizen volunteers protect the interests of neglected and abused children in court, remaining committed to the child until they are placed in foster care. Independent research shows that children who receive this service are more likely to be adopted and are half as likely to reenter foster care. Additionally, children with a CASA volunteer do better in school and enjoy improved social and conflict resolution skills.
